A major catastrophe has been averted, as an attempt to bomb the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos was foiled by the Nigeria Police Force after a Niger Delta militant operating from the creeks was caught with explosives.
The 43 year suspect, Abiodun Amos, was fingered as leader of the notorious gang that specialises in kidnappings and bank robbery.
In a report by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the Police Spokesman, DCP Don Awunah, said in a statement in Abuja on Thursday, that arms and ammunitions recovered in connection with the crime are: two cartons of explosive devices, 125 detonators and two AK 47 rifles.
Awunah said the suspect had been under police surveillance, as the Intelligent Response Team (IRT), with the use of a technical platform of the force, was able to arrest the suspect before the monstrous act could be carried out.
In another report by Thisday, the suspect bragged about his group’s ability to fight the federal government; they had acquired thousands of military grade arms and ammunition, and battle-ready 21 generals commanding 7, 800 militants. Read More »
