A bail application filed by counsel to former Special Adviser to Benue State Governor on Special Duties, Arc Joseph Kyaagba who is being remanded in prison, over the murder of his colleague, the Senior Special Assistant on Special Security to the Governor, Denen Igbana, was rejected on Monday 13th of June, 2016.
The application was filed on the grounds of the accused’s ill health, however, counsel for the state, Simon Egede opposed it, arguing that the court should be cautious about granting bail on grievous offences and reminded them that such offences were not bailable.
The Chief Magistrate ruled that the court had no jurisdiction to grant such application and thereby adjourned the case to August 3rd, 2016 for further mention.
Meanwhile, one of those whose name was mentioned at the crime scene, a former warlord and beneficiary of the Benue State government’s amnesty programme has exonerated himself from the case.
In an interview with Oracle Newspaper last week, he expressed shock over the incident saying he was also investigating to uncover the perpetrators of the crime.
